Obituary

Barry Linn Sinkey, of Boulder, Colorado, passed away at home with his family around him on Thursday, August 23, 2012 at 70 years old.

Barry was born on April 13, 1942 in Des Moines, Iowa to the late Almon H. and Phoebe Rebeccah (Stevig) Sinkey.  He was married to Judy M. Rice on August 30, 1969 in Golden Colorado and to this union were born three sons: David, Michael and Jason.

Survivors include his wife Judy; David (Christy), Georgia and Carly of Lafayette; Michael of Boulder and Jason of Louisville, two sisters Patty (Robert) Clifford of Ft. Collins Co, and Stephanie (Mark) Schroeder of Erie Co; nephews Carl Clifford (Kristen), Maxwell, Brody, and Emery, Nathan (Bethany), and Daniel Schroeder, and extended family Ilah Rice, Don and Merri Rice, John and Heidi Bath, Faye Anne and Zane, loving friends and relatives.

Barry spent his school age days in Indianola, Iowa.  In 1961 Barry started at the University of Colorado after one year at Iowa State.  He worked a variety of jobs, including hasher, school bus driver and construction worker to pay for school.  Barry graduated with a Degree in Business in 1966 and began his professional career with the Dayton Hudson Corporation (Target) in Denver.  In 1972 he became the youngest store manager at the company.  He also joined the United States Army Reserves in 1966 as a Personnel Specialist and was honorably discharged in1972. In 1975 Barry co-founded the first of several building and residential development companies.  He was involved in the building of over 700 homes in his career including the family ranch where he lived.  He retired in 2005 and was thrilled to see his boys continue in the business.  He was active in the Optimist Club, Boulder County Soil Conservation, Boys Scout of America, The Elks Club and Ducks Unlimited.  Barry was known to give his time and support to everything involving his family.  Barry loved boating, fishing, hunting, traveling, business and investing.  He had an exceptional memory and possessed an amazing variety of skills.

Barry never met a stranger. He was well regarded due to his genuine interest in other people.

A memorial service will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, September 8, 2012,  at the Calvary Bible Church (3245 Kalmia Avenue Boulder, Colorado) and will be followed by military honors and reception at the family home.  Information at www.sinkeys.com
